The Wisconsin Vital Records Office is responsible for filing, preserving, protecting, changing, and issuing copies of birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates, and records of declaration of domestic partnership and termination of domestic partnership for events that occur in Wisconsin.

The City Clerk will not fax copies of certified records. Under this program a number of communities are linked to a centralized, state database.

Data from births, deaths and marriages are entered into this database to establish a record of the event, and the database can then be accessed by any community linked to it in order to generate certified copies of the record. The NHVRIN project is primarily funded by a portion of the revenues collected by local city and town clerks for the issuance of birth, death or marriage certificates. The office can not accept payment by credit card or debit card and, therefore, cannot accept payment for requests submitted by email, fax, or telephone.

However, the City Clerk's Office can accommodate online orders for certified copies of vital records, for events that occurred in Nashua, using VitalChek, an independent company that it has partnered with to provide you this service. Vital Records is the only place to get a birth certificate for an adopted child. Divorce certificates may be obtained from the clerk of court in the county where the divorce is filed.
