The situation was called under control by fire ground command within 40 minutes. At the time of the fire, one 1 occupant was trapped inside of the involved apartment on the second floor.
City fire crews employed a vent-enter-search tactic and rescued a female occupant from the bedroom via an exterior positioned ground ladder. All other occupants of the structure were able to self-extricate. While the fire was contained to the apartment of origin, the residents of the adjoining unit were temporarily relocated due to residual smoke conditions within their residence and the disconnection of utilities. A total of six 6 persons were assisted by the Salvation Army of Batavia and the American Red Cross with food and sheltering.

Robert Hopkins appeared in front of Judge Michael Mohun on Friday where he admitted to sexually abusing multiple young girls in a plea agreement that guarantees him 12 years in state prison and 15 years of post-release supervision with no right to appeal.
Hopkins is convicted of second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and one count of first-degree attempted criminal sexual act. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release and will have a complete stay away order of protection issued for the victims. Hopkins is slated to be sentenced on October 24th.
